Imagine visiting a city that is in Norfolk County, Massachusetts and has a population of about 54,000 people. Although it is officially a city, the area is known to everyone who visits and resides there as the Town of Weymouth. Imagine visiting a place that was first inhabited by the Europeans in 1621. It was the third colony to enter the United States and it was a sister colony of Plymouth. Imagine visiting a place that was heavily into the shoemaking business all the way up until 1973. It is a place that has had five of its citizens be awarded the Medal of Honor. William Search, Eldon Johnson, Ralph Talbot, Frederick C. Murphy and Thomas W. Hamilton were all recipients of this prestigious award. It is a place that has four distinct districts that help residents to identify where they live and where the major institutions and businesses are located. It is a place where many famous people have lived including the wife of President Adams, professional baseball player Mark Bellhorn and film score composer Richard Robbins. The Town of Weymouth is a great place to visit on your Boston car rental vacation.

Go straight down this street and turn right at the stop sign

The Town of Weymouth has not just one, but four town centers including Columbian Square, Jackson Square, Bicknell Square and Weymouth Landing. Weymouth Landing is intersected by a main street called Washington Street, which is more commonly known as Route 53 and Route 18 to locals. There are so many things to do and see here that this is not an opportunity you want to miss out on. There are many places that you can visit if you wish to gain some educational knowledge as well, Boston car rental customers.

"Wait a minute Mr. Postman"

Weymouth Landing has a few historical properties that are great if you wish to learn more about the town itself, Boston car rental customers. It is also a great area to take children to teach them about life way before their time. The Weymouth Landing post office was built in 1941. It is a great architectural masterpiece as it resembles the Colonial Revival design and contains some seam-face granite. This building was the first Federal one to enter the Town of Weymouth and if you wish to check out the inside, you will notice a gorgeous mural done by Guy Pene du Bois. This work of art shows the Pilgrims settling on the shore of the town in 1622. The post office is one of the most popular and famous buildings in Weymouth Landing, alongside the South Shore Christian Academy and Sacred Heart.

Take a walk down memory lane

Another great historical area to visit on your Boston car rental vacation is Front Street. There are seven houses along this street that are worth noticing. These seven houses were also reviewed in the Comprehensive Community-wide Survey Project for historical properties. The oldest of the seven houses is the Whittemore House. The Whittemore House was built way back in 1830 and its architecture and design are truly remarkable. The houses have all been well preserved and are just waiting for people to take a look at them, Boston car rental customers.

Stop by and have a look around

Weymouth Landing also has a park, fire station, cemetery and a library that you can visit. There are just so many great things to see and do in, not only Weymouth Landing, but in the whole Town of Weymouth itself. All four town centers have their own unique attractions and they are certainly worth a visit on your Boston car rental vacation.
