The arena has hosted many prominent events including the 1999 and 2000 Division 1 NCAA men's basketball first and second rounds. It has hosted figure skating championships, gymnastics events and major hockey games. In 1998, the arena was home to the WWF's WrestleMania XIV. The TD Banknorth Garden also hosts other events like concerts, conventions, graduations and even circuses. The name of the gameThe Garden opened on Sept. 30, 1995 as home to the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics. The Shawmut Bank fought with the Fleet Bank as to who the arena would be named after. They merged together and soon after, the Shawmut logo was stamped on every seat and the colors were dedicated to Shawmut. Just before the arena opened, the logos and the colors had to be changed. Eventually on March 3, 2005, TD Banknorth who was the US subsidiary of the Toronto-Dominion Bank bought the naming rights to the arena. In honor of the original Boston Garden, the name was officially changed to TD Banknorth Garden on July 1, 2005. Come and see what all the fuss is about on your future Massachusetts travel vacation. A high-tech environmentThe TD Banknorth Garden has had 33 different names in the short time that it has been around. When it was known as the FleetCenter, sportswriters liked to refer to the arena as "The Vault". Just prior to the 2006-07 season, the arena underwent some huge changes. A brand new HD entertainment monitor was installed for the enjoyment of the fans and there were video advertising panels that replaced the old scrolling ones during basketball games. Among the hustle and bustleThe location of the TD Banknorth Garden is unique in itself. It was built on top of the North Station which is a major transportation center in Boston. There are, however, plans underway to try and double the size of this area for everyone's convenience.
