Massachusetts Travel and TD Banknorth Garden

Imagine that you are planning a trip to Boston and you want to get in all of the sightseeing you can. You may want to go shopping and try out all of the amazing restaurants that you have heard so much about. Perhaps your husband wants to go see a sporting event. If this is the case, there is only one place he should go to see the best action in Boston. On your next Massachusetts travel trip, check out a game or two at the TD Banknorth Garden. Depending on what season you go, you can have the chance to see the Bruins or the Celtics play. For intense competition and overwhelming excitement, you should definitely go to the TD Banknorth Garden on your Massachusetts travel vacation.

Come see the "Greatest Show on Earth"

Most often referred to as "The Garden" this sports arena was used to be known as the FleetCenter and the Shawmut Center. You can come check out an NHL from the Boston Bruins, or if basketball is more your thing, come see the Celtics in action. The arena has hosted many prominent events including the 1999 and 2000 Division 1 NCAA men's basketball first and second rounds. It has hosted figure skating championships, gymnastics events and major hockey games. In 1998, the arena was home to the WWF's WrestleMania XIV. The TD Banknorth Garden also hosts other events like concerts, conventions, graduations and even circuses.

The name of the game

The Garden opened on Sept. 30, 1995 as home to the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics. The Shawmut Bank fought with the Fleet Bank as to who the arena would be named after. They merged together and soon after, the Shawmut logo was stamped on every seat and the colors were dedicated to Shawmut. Just before the arena opened, the logos and the colors had to be changed. Eventually on March 3, 2005, TD Banknorth who was the US subsidiary of the Toronto-Dominion Bank bought the naming rights to the arena. In honor of the original Boston Garden, the name was officially changed to TD Banknorth Garden on July 1, 2005. Come and see what all the fuss is about on your future Massachusetts travel vacation.

A high-tech environment

The TD Banknorth Garden has had 33 different names in the short time that it has been around. When it was known as the FleetCenter, sportswriters liked to refer to the arena as "The Vault". Just prior to the 2006-07 season, the arena underwent some huge changes. A brand new HD entertainment monitor was installed for the enjoyment of the fans and there were video advertising panels that replaced the old scrolling ones during basketball games. There was also a see-through shot clock put in which is only one of five around. Check out all the new technology Massachusetts travel customers and enjoy the ride.

Among the hustle and bustle

The location of the TD Banknorth Garden is unique in itself. It was built on top of the North Station which is a major transportation center in Boston. Because of this feature, the Commuter Rail becomes somewhat busy during some events. The fans and the commuters have to share an area that is rather small and can get a little bit crowded. There are, however, plans underway to try and double the size of this area for everyone's convenience. The location is exceptional, though and there are so many great events that you wouldn't want to miss out. Just be sure to get there early and you will have no problems finding your way. Whether it's a basketball game, hockey game or any other kind of event you want to see, the TD Banknorth Garden has it all. You won't want to miss out on this opportunity Massachusetts travel customers.
