The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra has been providing inspiring performances for over ninety years. This professional orchestra, in its 94th season of concert, has been playing continuously since 1913, with the exception of two years during World War II. Small beginnings

The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1913 by Kingston violin teacher, G. Herbert Clarke. Clarke wanted to give his students an opportunity to play together in an ensemble, and thus the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra was created. Following several rehearsals, the first performance was conducted on December 28, 1913. The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra began as a small 30 – piece ensemble of dedicated players. Moving on up

In 1973, the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra became a chartered, non-profit corporation. Under the guidance of Boston Symphony conductor Victor Yampolsky, the Orchestra began its rise from amateur to semi-professional status. Rudolph Schlegel also played a critical role in developing the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra to grow at an unprecedented rate while gaining public support.

The passing of the baton

Following the death of G. Herbert Clarke in 1932, the position was passed on to Edgar Beauregard up until 1950. The baton was then passed to Beltrando Brini (1950-58), to Josef Cobert (1959-61), Jerome Cohen (1962-66), and John Pacheco (1967-72). Several guest conductors also lent their talents throughout the years. Today, the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra is under the guidance of Music Director and Conductor Steven Karidoyanes. Since 1994, Steven Karidoyanes has been bringing his talent and energy to the orchestra and has guided musicians to a new level of artistic quality.

Special events

The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra holds special events throughout the year. Enjoy a night of dinner and music by attending the Pops Prelude Picnics.
