Massachusetts Car Rental and The Plymouth Plantation

The Plymouth Plantation is a living history museum in Plymouth that will take you from your Massachusetts car rental to the original settlement. What is interesting about this museum is that it was built in the 1940s from scratch because none of the original structures from the 1620s survived. The village was gradually built up over time to what it is today.

Built on a dream

When you visit with your Massachusetts car rental you will learn that an amateur archeologist established a museum as a proxy. The "First House" exhibit, where the Mayflower II is currently docked, was the first of many replicas of the original settlement. This is a speculative recreation of the what the settlement would have looked like in about 1627. While you visit with your Massachusetts car rental, there are employees who will interpret and act out what life would have been like at this time.

Today, when you visit with your Massachusetts car rental, you can also visit the recreation of the Wampanoag homesite, where Native People from a variety of nations explain and demonstrate how their ancestors interacted with the settlers.

Step back into the past

When you visit with your Massachusetts car rental, you will see what life was like in the 17th century. There is the Wampanoag homesite of the original settlers in the area. The Native Americans will be dressed in traditional clothing such as deerskin.

Opposite of the homesite, there is the poetic language of Shakespeare's England and the smell of gunpowder in the air. You can talk with the colonists to see what life was like as a pilgrim and how they lied their daily lives. Visiting both of these villages with your Massachusetts car rental is a lot of fun and easy.

Plan your visit

The Plymouth Plantation is open for you to visit with your Massachusetts car rental from March 25 through November 26 every day of the week. There are two separate locations for you to visit: the Plymouth Plantation 3 miles south of downtown Plymouth and the Mayflower II on the Plymouth waterfront. You can buy tickets for both attractions separately or together, depending on what you plan to do. Don't forget to visit the museum shop on your way out.

To get here from Cape Cod with your Massachusetts car rental, you will want to take Route 3 North to exit 5. At the bottom of the exit ramp, go left, then make a right onto Route 3 South. Right away there will be a left exit onto the Plymouth Plantation Highway. You will take this for 1 mile and follow the exit for the museum. At the end of the ramp turn right, then right again into the museum driveway. There is parking here for your Massachusetts car rental.
