Massachusetts Car Rental and Pilgrim Memorial State Park Plymouth

Pilgrim Memorial State Park is a unique historical site that offers and interpretive program for you to learn about the history and significance of Plymouth in shaping America. This is one of the most heavily visited parks in the state and is a great place to stop with your Massachusetts car rental.

A new world and a new home

Pilgrim Memorial State Park is the smallest park in the state park system and the most visited. It is a tribute to the Pilgrims who came here in 1620 to make new lives for themselves and to escape religious persecution in England. Tradition tells us that the Pilgrims first laid foot on land at Plymouth Rock and began their new journey. This boulder is now a symbol of the courage it took for these travelers to who left their homes for the unknown. When you visit with your Massachusetts car rental you will learn about this history.

A monumental journey

While you are visiting the park with your Massachusetts car rental, you will want to stop at the Forefathers' Monument. This is a feature of the park and home to an impressive monument that memorializes the interpretation that Victorians would have had of their world and the forces that motivated them to move half way around the world. This was the landing site of the Mayflower and the original settlement of the Pilgrims and only the second permanent settlement in British North America.

Visit America's Hometown

Plymouth has been called America's Hometown, as it was one of the original settlements in North America. It is home to some of the oldest historical monuments in the country. There is Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Plantation, and Pilgrim Memorial State Park. Visiting America's Hometown with your Massachusetts car rental doesn't mean that you need to spend the whole time here in the past. There are plenty of other activities here in the present as well. Plymouth is home to many beaches, golf courses, and deep sea fishing and harbor excursions. Plymouth is also home to the second largest state forest and is a popular destination for camping.

Plan your journey

Pilgrim Memorial State Park is located in Plymouth in southeastern Massachusetts. To get here with your Massachusetts car rental, take Route 3 to Route 44 (Plymouth) and follow it east to the waterfront. The Forefathers' Monument is a one mile walk from the park. When driving your Massachusetts car rental, go north along the waterfront to Route 44. At the lights, go straight for 200 yards, then turn right on Allerton Street. There is on-site parking for your Massachusetts car rental at the monument.

Pilgrim Memorial State Park will give you the opportunity to step back into the past and learn about the colonial days. The living history museum will really give you an idea of what it was like to move to a new world and start a new life in America.
