Symbolism
When you visit with your cheap rental car Boston, you will find the New England Holocaust Memorial is made up of six glass towers that you can walk under. There are six million numbers that symbolize the six million killed in the Holocaust with random messages on the towers from people who lived through it. Each of the towers also symbolizes a different concentration camp (Majdanek, Chelmno, Sobibor, Treblinka, Belzec, and Auschwitz-Birkenau). Some people also think that the six towers can also represent the six candles on the menorah, six million Jews killed (one million per column), or the six years that the Holocaust took place (1939-1945).
Walk through
When you get here, you will find a granite panel that outlines the key historical events that lead to the Holocaust, from the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany in 1933, to the end of the war in Europe in 1945. As you walk through the New England Holocaust Memorial, you will follow a black granite path through the memorial under the towers. At the base of each tower, you will see a grate that covers a six-foot deep chamber and the name of one of the primary concentration camps. The names of the camps are illuminated by smoldering coals. On the panels that feature statements, you will find a number of things, from personal experiences, the horror of camp life, and acts of resistance.
