Boston rent a car travelers will find the Minuteman Bikeway in four major Massachusetts cities - Bedford, Lexington, Arlington and Cambridge. There's an official start at Alewife Station in Cambridge, and another at Depot Park/South Street in Bedford. The length of the entire bikeway is 11 miles. The path is entirely paved and level, however it is not ploughed during the winter (all the better to cross country ski on!). The Minuteman Bikeway is anchored by two fantastic tourist destinations. The first is Bedford's Depot Park. This recently restructured greenspace features beautiful landscaping, new benches and increased public parking. Currently, Depot Park is undergoing plans to become a model transportation center. The project, which is funded by Federal TEA-21 money, will bring past and present rail travel together in one amazing project. This major hub of transportation connects travelers to the Red Line Subway as well as more than half a dozen local bus lines.
Directions to Bedford and Cambridge
Boston rent a car travelers should have no difficulty finding their way onto the Minuteman Bikeway. If you're looking to start your ride in Bedford, Verc recommends coming from Interstate 95 (MA-Rte 128), exiting at 31B for Routes 4/225 North towards Bedford. Once off the exit you'll drive through three traffic lights, turning left at the fourth (Loomis Street). Continue to the end of this street, where it intersects with South Road. Boston rent a car travelers will find the bikeway adjacent to the Fright House Building. If you're closer to Cambridge, Verc recommends taking Route 2 toward Arlington/Cambridge. From here you should be able to locate the Alewife T Station Parking Garage. The Bikeway entrance is to the west of the station.
