Boston Car Rental and Lloyd Center for the Environment
The Lloyd Center for the Environment is an organization that is dedicated to ensuring that everyone can enjoy the coastal resources of southern Massachusetts when you visit with your Boston car rental.
Enjoy the outdoors
The Lloyd Center has an observation deck where you can get great photos of the surrounding area. From here, you can see Demarest Lloyd State Park across the river, Cuttyhunk Island and the Elizabeth Islands. If it is a clear day, you can even see Martha’s Vineyard. In the winter, you might have the chance to see seals enjoying the sun or point out some migrating birds in the spring. There is the aquaria room, where you can learn about local sea animals and even touch some of them in the touch tank. When you visit with your Boston car rental, you will find that the pictures here depict the coastline in the area and that you can learn a lot about the marine life in the area. In addition to the salt water aquaria and the touch tank, the Lloyd Center has a number of permanent exhibits. There are marine skeletons such as the pilot whale, harbor seal, and the Atlantic white-sided dolphin throughout the building.
Go for a walk
The Lloyd Center has five trails that you can walk along when you visit with your Boston car rental. Located on 55 acres of forest, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh, and estuary, there is a wide diversity of wildlife in the area. Be sure to take along your camera for the views of Buzzards Bay, Demarest-Lloyd State Park, Mishaum Point, and the islands. Osprey Point Trail will take you out to Osprey Point. In the summer and fall, ospreys can often be seen in the area, as well as two of the largest hollies in the state. The Chaypee Woods Trail will take you through the salt marsh and through some stone walls that are remains from when the area was used for farming. The Forest Management Trail goes through the oak/hickory forest. The West Swamp Trail passes through the swamp. This is a good trail for those who are less physically fit as the trail is very level. The Hardscrabble Farm Loop Trail is the longest trail and reaches to the perimeter of the Center, taking you through the woodland habitat, the salt marsh, freshwater marsh, and the Slocums River.
Shop till you drop
There is also a visitor’s shop that you can visit when you are here with your Boston car rental. They offer a wide range of items, such as hats, puzzles, and stuffed animals that you can take home with you.
