Quincy Car Rental and Josiah Quincy House
History is never forgotten in the past thanks to Historic New England, a non-profit historical organization. This wonderful group of 100+ people works hard to preserve New England's vibrant past, by owning and operating a number of area attractions. One such attraction is the Josiah Quincy House, located at 20 Muirhead Street, in Quincy, Massachusetts. This grand country home was built by Revolutionary War soldier Colonel Josiah Quincy I, the first in a line of six illustrious Josiah Quincys. Customers of Verc Quincy Car Rental are invited to visit this National Historic Landmark as a part of their upcoming New England adventure.
Take a look at these unique features
When customers of Verc Quincy Car Rental visit the Josiah Quincy House, the first thing they remark on is often the unusual roof. This roof, which is designed in the monitor style, is the oldest known examples of this style of roof to survive from the original colonies. A unique Chinese fretwork balustrade completes the detailed finish of the roof, along with a classic portico. These elegant architectural details are continued inside the house, where customers of Verc Quincy Car Rental will find period furnishings and large, well lit windows.
An attic full of secrets
The attic of a house can often offer different perspectives on the history of a house and the people that have lived in it. Such is the case with the Josiah Quincy House. This attic is comprised of four very small rooms. It is known that these rooms were occupied by servants. Even though these rooms were heated by their own fireplace, it must have been unbearably cold during the winter. But the layout of this attic isn't its most interest feature. Rather, it's what happened here in 1775. At this time, Josiah Quincy I was assisting George Washington during the American Revolution by observing the movements of a British Fleet in Boston Harbor from his attic window. Customers of Verc Quincy Car Rental can only imagine how long Josiah sat there. At one point, the Colonel scratched the message "October 10th, 1775 Governor Gage saild for England with a fair wind" on a pane of glass. Amazingly, this pane of glass has been preserved, and is now on display for customers of Verc Quincy Car Rental to see in the house's front hall.
