A little history

For some 30 years, Gregory Burch and Marilyn Mudry have made the Hawthorne Inn in Concord, Massachusetts, home to their family of five and more than 100,000 travelers. It was built in 1870 by the minor artist and historian George Arthur Gray, with a stucco exterior added in the 1920s. Set on one and a half acres on Lexington Road, the woodsy grounds had once been surveyed by Henry David Thoreau and had belonged at different times to Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott's family, and Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Breakfast is served

Wake up to the rich scent of the Hawthorne Inn’s home blend of organic coffee, fine teas, and warm muffins and more on the common table! You can choose to head straight for popular Hawthorne Inn homemade granola, topped – off with generous dollop of yogurt, before exploring the variety of wholesome freshly baked goods, specialty jams and aged cheeses. You definitely need to try the Marilyn's Own Hot Peach-Plum Nutty Fruit-Crisp topped with Mascarpone or Hawthorne Inn's Select Registry Award Winning "Hickory-Dickory-Bosc", Bosc Pears poached in Hickory Syrup laced with a Raspberry Sauce. Homemade treats and the yield of niche bakeries include wholesome Caraway-Rye, Pumpernickel, Harvest and Pepper Jack breads. Or richer items like: Currant or Cinnamon Scones, Coffee Cake laced with spices and nuts, hot Gingerbread or buttery Croissants. Sleeping in

Sheets are all cotton with 300 – 400 thread count. Each room has a mixture of four pillows (feather, fiberfill, hard, and soft). To cover a four-poster canopy bed, Gregory and Marilyn adapted an antique pulled-and-tatted linen tablecloth, perfectly sized and patterned to cover the posts with an elegant drop.
