In the beginning...

As one of the eight Ivy League schools, Harvard is the oldest institution still going today in the United States. This school was named after John Harvard who was the principal donor to orchestrate the place. Harvard donated close to 400 books to begin a library and he also donated much of his money to get this school up and running. John Harvard wanted a place where people could go to study, become educated and come out as the future leaders of the world.

Bringing about change

When Charles William Eliot became the president of Harvard, he immediately transformed it into the brilliant research school it is today. He brought about small classes, elective courses and entrance exams to ensure that the best were admitted. Harvard has the fourth out of the five largest libraries in the world and it also has the largest financial endowment of any academic institution. If you want to see a place of honor and history, check out Harvard University on your upcoming Massachusetts travel trip.

A dual to the end

Harvard's color was challenged by Fordham University. Both schools wanted the color magenta, so they decided to play a baseball game and the winner would get to keep that color. Fordham won the game but Harvard continued to use the color. Fordham eventually took maroon because Harvard wouldn't budge, and soon after that, Harvard adopted crimson. The color used on sports uniforms is a lot duller and darker than crimson, but when you see the color being displayed there is no mistaking it as Harvard pride. Show off your colors when you go to visit Harvard University, Massachusetts travel customers.
