This course is on what was once actively mined quarries, which you can still see in some of the outcroppings and water hazards (some of which are 40-400 feet deep). Links style courses originated in Scotland, and were typically build close to the ocean. The courses are challenging because of the wind that would come off the water and the lack of trees. You will find that this course has some of those features with a modern twist. If you would like, there are also lessons available for you to become a better player. A half hour lesson is $50. What a viewWhen you visit with your car rental Quincy, you will find that the course has great views of the Boston skyline, Harbor Islands, and the Blue Hills Reservation. While you are here, you can also enjoy a meal at the Tavern Restaurant. More than just the regular sandwiches and pub food that you will find at many golf courses, here you can have pan seared salmon, roasted statler chicken, and lobster ravioli are some of the popular choices on the menu. An interesting history of the granite industryThe course was built on a granite quarry, which was once famous around the world. Many of the statues and monuments that were built in America were made from the granite that came from here. The first commercial railroad was founded in Quincy because of the granite to be transported to Charlestown. At its peak, there were nearly two dozen granite quarries operating in the city. However, after World War II, cheaper building materials led to a decline in the industry and the last quarry closed in the 1960s. You can see part of the former quarries, which were reshaped into the Granite Links Gold Club. How to get hereWhen you visit with your car rental Quincy, you will find Granite Links Golf Club less than seven miles from downtown Boston in Quincy and Milton. The main entrance is just off Route 93. Just follow the signs to “Quarry Hills”.
