Make your way through the maze
The concept for Davis’ Mega Maze began across the street from the Davis farm back in 1995. The maze started as a humble concept: to provide children with a minor outdoor amusement in a small plot of corn. Surprisingly, dozens of local children flocked to the attraction on opening day, eventually trampling the delicate cornstalks and ruining the exhibit. A bigger, better maze was required, and quickly designed. Larry Davis, the sixth generation of Davis farmers, contacted Adrian Fisher, one of the world’s most famous maze designers. The plan for the original maze included more than 3 miles of winding pathways, and was designed to look like a traditional Celtic frieze of two intertwined dragons. After months of roadblocks, and a less than stellar crop of corn, the maze was completed. The cornstalks measured just three feet tall, and Mr. Davis worried that the maze would be too easy to solve. Before destroying months of hard work, maze employees decided to test the layout. When the employees couldn’t solve it, Farmer Davis knew he had something worth saving. When original maze opened, Davis was featured on Good Morning America, national newspapers and even a magazine in Sweden.
A brand new Mega Maze is unveiled every year in the plot of land across from the Davis’ farm. The Mega Maze challenges travelers in Plymouth car rentals in a number of ways, in fact, the maze is the only field maze in the world that has the capacity to change every day. Specially placed gates allow Maze employers to alter the maze’s layout every so subtly; this means there are literally hundreds of ways for travelers in Plymouth car rental travelers to complete the maze!
