Massachusetts Car Rental and Cheers Boston

Cheers Boston is the inspiration for the hit TV show of the same name. The original location can be found at Beacon Hill, and there is a second location at Faneuil Hall. When you visit with your Massachusetts car rental, you can see the inspiration for one of the most-loved TV shows of all times.

Come where everyone knows your name: the original Cheers

The Cheers in Beacon Hill was founded in 1969 as the Bull & Finch Pub. In the summer of 1981 the bar was "discovered" by a couple who were looking for a pub for their new TV series. They enjoyed the atmosphere so much that they took pictures of the interior and exterior to model their show on. The set that was built from the pictures was one that remains in the minds of Americans who have seen this show that ran for 11 years on TV and was one of the most popular on television.

Walking into the original Cheers after you leave your Massachusetts car rental you may think that the bar looks quite different from the one that you see on TV. The name was changed from the Bull & Fitch because visitors were often confused by the name change. Today it is simply known as Cheers. And while the exterior will look familiar as you approach in your Massachusetts car rental, the interior may not be the same at first fist.

Pay attention to the details

Can you pick out those details that makes this bar special? For starters, the shot of the outside of the opening shots are the actual shots taken from the bar. There was not set built in Hollywood for the outside facade. When you walk in you will probably notice that the bar is on the wall and not an island. This is because the island design made much more sense for filming in front of a live studio audience, as Cheers was. If you look closer when you walk in, you will see the friendly Indian and the steps coming into the bar area with the red brick walls. You will also notice that the windows are the same, as well as the furniture.

Moving to the future

When you come to the Beacon Hill location with your Massachusetts car rental, you will notice that there are souvenir shops that were not part of the series. This was added because as the show gained popularity, people were stealing all of the items from the pub. The souvenir shop opened to offer people an alternative to stealing and help the pub save money.

Are you glad you came?

In 2001, there was an opportunity to create another bar within the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. This one was recreated to look like the set of the show Cheers and give them an opportunity to feel like they were on the set. Unlike the Beacon Hill location, which was the original inspiration but does not look exactly like the set of the show, this location looks more authentic for the television viewer. This location also offers the same great food and drinks that the original location offers, but in a more modern atmosphere.

Cheers is a great place to visit with your Massachusetts car rental. You will be glad you came.
