Boston Car Rental and the Charles River Reservation
A big part of Boston's beautiful landscape is made possible in part by the Charles River Reservation, a linear parking stretching from Boston Harbor up the river for more than 20 miles. The river, which is commonly separate into two distinct areas (the Charles River Basin and the Upper Charles River), is home to a wide variety of recreation opportunities, and annual events. Whether you're interested in walking or bird watching, this park is the perfect place Boston car rental travelers to stretch their legs. Do your body a favour during your upcoming Boston car rental vacation and plan an afternoon of outdoor fun at the Charles River Reservation.
Find the recreation that's right for you
Boston car rental travelers will find plenty of great opportunities for outdoor entertainment during their visit to the Charles River Reservation. That's because the park is overflowing with great recreation and athletic facilities. Travelers will find three baseball fields within the park, as well as two terrific bike/running paths. A skating rink is maintained at Nonantum Road during the winter months, complete with concession stand, skate rentals, sharpening and lessons, while in the summer Boston car rental travelers can take a dip at one of three local pools. Finally, don't forget your tennis rackets - Boston car rental travelers will find five courses available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Enjoy a great outdoor concert during your Boston car rental vacation
Have you ever noticed how concerts always seem to sound better outside? Such is the case at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade, located between Mass. Avenue and Longfellow Bridges. Concerts are held in this beautiful venue beginning in June and ending in October. Boston car rental travelers can checkout events Wednesdays through Sunday. Admission is always free. The Publick Theater at Herter Park is another great musical venue in the vicinity of the Charles River Reservation. The theatrical season starts in early June and ends in August or early September. For information on planned performances call 617-454-1444.
A closer look at the nature of things
The Charles River is fed by more than 80 brooks and streams, as it flows for 80 miles through eastern Massachusetts. It is the most populated river basin in all of New England. A home to dozens of different fish and animal species, Charles River is a great place to relax and rejuvenate during a long business trip or stressful family vacation. Boston car rental travelers can often find painted turtles doing just that, sunning themselves on logs and stones at the river's edge. Hawks, herons and songbirds are another common site along the river, as are foxes, squires and other small mammals. If you're planning to visit during the winter, keep an eye out for Canada Geese, mallards, black ducks and hooded mergansers as they make their way along the river corridor.
One river, two shoes of fun
Boston car rental travelers will enjoy hours of fun on either side of the Charles River. On the Boston side of the river there's the Boston Esplanade, the Hatch Memorial Shell, Lederman Park and Nashua Street Park, just to name a few attractions. On the opposite shore, Boston car rental travelers will find Charlestown, Cambridge and Watertown. Top attractions include North Point Park, Paul Revere Park, the Cambridge Esplanade and Magazine Beach.
