The design

The Charles Playhouse was designed and built by renowned architect Benjamin Asher. Its original location was at 54 Charles Street in Boston. It became the first synagogue in Boston in 1864, home of congregation Ohabei Shalom. Later, it was turned into The Lido Venice a speakeasy, a Scottish Presbyterian congregations and the YWCA where it than moved to its current Warrenton Street location. The Charles Playhouse has two different performance spaces. Downstairs, there is a 200- seat cabaret-style space. The main performance space is upstairs and can seat up to 500 people.
