Boston Public Market and Car Rental in Boston
Founded in 2001, the Boston Public Market Association is composed of both city and state officials, farmers, chefs, environmentalists, businesspersons, and people who enjoy good, local foods. The goal of the association is to promote locally-grown and produced foods year-round for the Boston area. Currently, the Boston Public Market sponsored by Rodale at Dewey Square is a seasonal demonstration of their goal. It is also the first activation of the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
What exactly is a public market?
A public market is a market located in a public space where independent merchants can sell their products to the public. Products are typically local and include fresh produce, meats, baked goods, poultry, seafood, specialty food, condiments, spices and various other food items. It is different from the traditional farmer market in that the fresh food produce is available all year round. Local artists and craftsmen can also be commonly found peddling their goods. Vendors are all independent, locally- owned and operated businesses. A public market places heavy emphasis on local and regional food specialties.
The people of Boston supporting Boston
The Boston Public Market sponsored by Rodale was officially opened in June 2006 at Dewey Square. The market is located in the heart of several Boston attractions including the Leather District, Fort Point, and Chinatown. Its proximity to one of Boston¡¯s busiest transit stations (South Station) and numerous office buildings makes the Boston Public Market a place where tens of thousands of people pass by each and every day. You can get your chance to see the area too when you travel with your car rental in Boston. Also, on Saturday October 4, 2009 the Boston Public Market in Greenway was officially opened. Just more places to visit with your car rental in Boston!
Boston¡¯s first daily public food market
The Boston Public Market Association may soon get its wish. For the first time in a decade Boston officials are closer to opening the city¡¯s first daily public food market. The proposed site would be located near Haymarket on the Blackstone Street property that will see over a dozen local growers, bakers and other merchants selling their items year round. However, the planned site for the indoor public market has drawn some skeptics at the small size of the location relative to other public markets in other cities. The progress a year round public market has never been closer before but it will still probably take two to three years before the public market could be officially opened to the public following approval of a final proposal for the site.
