Boston Car Rental and the Boston National Historical Park
History comes to life along the Freedom Trail, a 1.5 mile walking tour that touches upon seven of the eight privately, municipally and federally owned sites of Boston National Historical Park. Located right in the heart of downtown Boston, this park provides Boston car rental travelers with an up-close look at "The Cradle of Liberty" and the forefront of America. The American Revolution and the founding growth of the United States provide the common link between sites like the Old State House, Pail Revere House and a portion of the Charlestown Navy Yard, all of which are considered a part of the park. Peruse the past for present day fun during your upcoming Verc Boston car rental vacation and spend the day at Boston National Historical Park.
One park, more than a half a dozen historic sites
The Boston National Historical Park isn't a true park in the sense that there's no open fields or outdoor recreation equipment. Instead, this park provides travelers with access to some of the nation's most historically significant landmarks and locations. From Bunker Hill and Dorchester Heights to the Old North Church and Faneuil Hall, Boston car rental travelers will discover the very heart of American pride inside the Boston National Historical Park.
Engage in informative activities
Boston car rental travelers will find a wide variety of activities inside the Boston National Historical Park, including tours, lectures, costumed programs and publications. For an in-depth understanding of Park landmarks, Verc Car Rentals highly recommends participating in a Range led tour. National Park Service Rangers are based at the Charleston Navy Yard, the Bunker Hill Monument, Faneuil Hall and the downtown visitor center. Boston car rental travelers can join in 90-minute tours of Bunker Hill and Faneuil Hall all year round, while walking tours of the downtown area are made available during the warmer summer months. At the Navy Yard, Rangers provide tours of the WW II/Cold War destroyer, U.S.S. Cassin Young, whenever the weather permits boarding. Boston car rental travelers can embark on self-guided tours of the privately administered Old South Meeting House, Old State House, Paul revere House and Old North Church.
Test your knowledge at the Visitor Centers
The Boston National Historical Park currently boasts two visitor centers - one downtown and one at the Charleston Navy Yard. The downtown location can be found at 15 State Street, while the Navy Yard location is conveniently set right next to the U.S.S. Constitution. Both centers provide a free comprehensive orientation to the culture and history of the park's landmarks. Boston car rental travelers are encouraged to stop by and pick up maps, pamphlets and brochures. Both visitor centers are open from 9am to 5pm daily (closed Christmas, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving).
A note about fees
While the Boston National Historical Park does not charge an admission fee in itself, you will be expected to pay a small entry fee at any of the privately owned and operated sites located within the park. These include the Old State House, Old South Meeting House and Paul Revere House. These sites do not receive any federal funding and thus rely on admission fees for any maintenance and programming expenses. There is no fee to enter government owned and operated sites like Bunker Hill, the U.S.S. Constitution and the Dorchester Heights Monument. Ranger led programs are also free to all Boston car rental participants.
