Massachusetts Car Rental and Boston Bruins NHL

The game is tied 2-2 and we have already had overtime to determine a winner. Nobody scored in overtime so we move on to a shootout. In one of the biggest games in NHL history, the Boston Bruins are looking to take home the Stanley Cup. It all comes down to a shootout as the first player takes the ice. One after the other, the players shoot and the puck doesn't go into the net. We are down to our final player and final shot of the shootout. He has to make this shot to win the game. He could be the hero, the winner of it all. He catches the puck with his stick and heads toward the opposing goalie. He fakes to the left and shoots to the top right of the net. The puck goes in! GOAL! The crowd goes wild and the Boston Bruins have just won the Stanley Cup. You might get the chance to experience moments like these on your Massachusetts car rental trip.

A few housekeeping items

The professional hockey team of the Boston Bruins has had quite a history with a number of all-time great players. The team was founded in 1924 and now plays in the TD Banknorth Garden Arena. Their colors are black, gold and white (which they display proudly) and the owner is Jeremy Jacobs. The head coach is Dave Lewis and the captain is Zdeno Chara. The Bruins have been Conference Champions twice, have taken home the Stanley Cup 5 times and have been Division Champs too many times to count. If you want to see what this team is all about, you should definitely check them out on your Massachusetts car rental trip.

What's in a name?

In 1924, the Boston Bruins were formed under the management of Art Ross. Ross was the one who came up with the name "Bruins" because he wanted a name that displayed the agility, cunning and speed of an untamed animal. He named the team after a brown bear and, coincidentally, the name also went with the team colors. The team accumulated more and more great players and eventually won their first Stanley Cup in 1928-29. The team kept growing and getting better with some of the most famous players in the history of the sport. Check out a game on your upcoming Massachusetts car rental vacation.

The greatest player of all time

Boston was one of the "original six" teams in the NHL after World War II struck. Bobby Orr was drafted to the team in 1966 and he is, perhaps, the greatest hockey player of all time. When he first entered the league, he was named Rookie of the Year and he was also named to the Second NHL All-Star team. These were just the first awards of many for a young Bobby Orr. He helped the team to a Stanley Cup win with his winning goal in overtime in 1970. Boston continued to dominate with so many notable players and coaches to have entered and left the team. Go watch a game and see what this team is all about, Massachusetts car rental customers.

The current crew

Today, the Bruins haven't been having the greatest luck in winning. But they have made numerous changes that will hopefully benefit them in the future and they are working their way up to being one of the greats. The Bruins are going to get rid of their current jerseys for ones that look like the 1966-67 ones. They will wear these jerseys for a few select games to show their respect for the franchise that was created way back when. If you want to see a great hockey team play with fans that support them no matter what, check out the Boston Bruins on your Massachusetts car rental vacation.
