Welcome, Boston car rental clients, to the city with the thirteenth worst commute times out of a ranking of 100 U.S. locations.
This is according to a study conducted by traffic research firm Inrix and reported by Governing.com, which analyzed data collected for one year ending in May 2012. The firm compiled the data from the over 100 million daily reports that it collects via mobile application, GPS systems and road sensors within major metropolitan areas. The study focused on the 4 – 7pm rush hour, when people are not only leaving work but also conducting errands before heading home. While the Monday to Thursday commute is bad enough, Fridays are the worst. For every 30 minutes of low-traffic driving in Beantown, afternoon rush hour adds 4.8 minutes to the drive time during Monday to Thursday, and almost seven minutes on a Friday. At least this isn’t as bad as it is for Los Angeles drivers, who experience delays of almost twice that time, on average. (more…)
