Tackle even the most congested parking garage with ease and confidence. Here’s how.
1) Don’t Block Spaces While Waiting
There is one sure fire way to enrage another driver while you are innocently waiting with your New England car rental, and that is to block them into they’re space while you’re waiting for another one to open up. While this sin may be forgivable if the person you’re waiting for is already pulling out of their space; however, if you are still playing the waiting game, be respectful and move your car so others can leave.
You never know, you may be able to park in their spot!
2) Parking Spaces are Marked by Yellow Lines. Take Note.
Yes, we know you’re in a hurry, but how much of a hurry are you in that you have to take up two or three parking spaces with your New England car rental?
In paid parking garages, you are taking up space that someone else has paid for. In free parking garages, you are just being discourteous.
Park your car in a way that allows other people to park. This includes centering the car in the parking space. Not only does this allow others to park comfortably, it reduces the chances of someone else dinging your car or vice versa.
3) Pull Your New England Car Rental Fully Into the Space
This piggybacks slightly on the previous point and again has to do with common courtesy. Parking garages are difficult enough to maneuver without having to swerve around other cars who couldn’t be bothered to pull all the way in. If you have one of our rental trucks or SUVs and are parked behind a compact car, this can be very frustrating for the compact car. Compact cars sometimes have to back out blind when they are parked beside a larger vehicle. Having your car sticking out only exacerbates the problem.
However, this problem has two sides. If you’re driving a compact car, try to leave the back end of your vehicle parallel with the back ends of other vehicles, so as not to provide a false impression of an empty space.
4) Don’t Force It
Yes, parking spaces are hard to come by, but accidentally dinging or getting dinged by someone else will only make your problems much worse. If you have elected an SUV New England car rental, don’t try to force it into a compact space. It’s simply a losing battle. Either rent a smaller car or keep circling until you find a space that you are confident that you can fit into
5) Watch for Other Drivers
It can happen all too easily. You’re driving your New England car rental around, cruising for a parking spot, and you don’t even notice someone backing up. And they don’t notice you until…it’s too late. As usual, be observant and give other cars the space needed to back out safely….and then park in the vacant space they’ve left behind!
6) Observe the Law
While you’re not likely to find police hiding out in a parking garage, anxious to issue their next speeding ticket, you still need to observe the law, in particular laws pertaining to parking, speed, and the right of way. Because parking garages aren’t heavily policed, few people actually pay attention to these laws, but it doesn’t mean that you have to add to the problem. Pay attention to speed bumps, pedestrian crossings, and speed limits.
